Howdy, is anyone here going to this year's camp? I have placed my deposit. I'll be driving all the way from Ottawa, Canada!

The staff & musician line up looks stellar, I can't wait to learn a few things from them as well as from the jamming.

I'm looking forward to it!

Seems iinteresting.
Since it is oriented to banjos, is there really much jamming opportunities in the evening or between classes in small groups?

Im thinking about going. I'd be driving up from Kentucky.
Im kinda stuck at intermediate level so it would probably be a good experience for me.
I've never been to this or any other camp

i thought the jamming sessions were fantastic.  It tends to be banjo oriented, but all of the organized jams have accompanying instruments in addition to banjo.  There are several impromptu jams that take place at other times as well.  The jamming is one of the highlights for many.

Right on, I'll see you there!

I've been to band camps before but they didn't have as much concentrated instrument sessions like this camp has.

I'm in the same boat.  My skills lie somewhere in the intermediate spectrum.  I appreciate that we're free to move around the different classes & tracks.

In the last year, I've been focusing on the little skills to help fill in music.  My disadvantage is I don't have a large repertoire on fiddle & banjo tunes, so I'm also trying to learn one or two per week so I'm ready for some jamming.

I also haven't played music with other people in a few years.  I'm looking forward to learning by immersion.

I've been to Suwanee Banjo Camp 3 times and loved it. I can't go to Suwanee this year due to a planned vacation on a cruise but I'm thinking seriously of attending this Midwest camp. It's a bit of a drive from the Atlanta area but it's worth it in my opinion.
Yes, to the person asking about jamming. Many structured and impromptu jams. Some folks have questioned the value of instruction you get vs the money you spend. The fun is well worth the money and you learn something to boot in my opinion.

Not going this year. I really liked the faculty line-up and announced program in 2020 and was signed up to go. Of course, it didn't happen. In 2021, I attended the virtual/online version and actually had a great time carving out a bunch of hours for myself to watch and participate in the real-time sessions.

I really like this organization, their new college location looks appealing, and I'm hoping another year's program appeals to me before I get too old.

For those of you going, have a great time.

3 weeks to go until camp. Who is coming?

I've more or less selected the classes I want to take.

While I've been practicing a lot of clawhammer skills during the past few years, I don't have a very large tune repertoire, so I'm looking forward to being able to practice those skills while learning some new phrasing, by ear, particularly with the different levels of jams. It's not often that I have an opportunity to join some moderated "slower" jams.

See y'all soon!
