Hello fellow/lady Hangouters. Has anyone ever heard of a resonator 5 string banjo BRAND called NORTHERN. The banjo has ‘Northern' on the headstock. It doesn’t look like an Asian instrument but don’t know. Any help is appreciated. J

You need to post some pictures of the instrument. Close up of headstock, neck, inside pot, resonator, etc. I never heard of this make or brand and many banjos are made and company will stamp any name on them the buyer wants on it. Hard to tell without some visual reference to go by.

I saw a very similar question regarding Northern guitars on another forum recently.

I remember seeing them both in music stores in the late 70s. This was the era of "lawsuit" guitars and asian Masterclone banjos.

My understanding is they were asian stencil branded instruments for the Canadian market. I believe there was a maple leaf on the headstocks. More info here:
