Does anyone know who may sell Gold plated 5/16 Baldwin style J-Hooks new. That or is there someone out there who may have some used gold plated hooks (with intact plating) that they would sell.
I am looking to replace some of the hooks on my Baldwin "D". Any leads on this would be appreciated, as previous sources appear to carry either Gibson style1/4" hooks only or do not carry any gold plated 5/16" hooks...
ThanX in advance.

I've never seen a tension hook from either a Gibson or Baldwin banjo that had any feature that measures 5/16".

The nuts are 5/16, so the hooks are as well. This was a Vega standard, which Ode and subsequently Baldwin utilized. (Vega 271/8" scale neck and 5/16 hooks and nuts.)
There are new 5/16 hooks and nuts for sale out there, just not in gold - either brass or nickel or chrome.

Maybe I should clarify - I am talking about 5/16 threads - not the length of the hook..

Check out Gold Tone. In their products section they have a listing for parts. They have brackets, either round or flat, with 5/16" nuts. Just click on the picture of the bracket and there's an option for nickel, chrome, or gold.http://goldtone.com

Please clarify, 5-16 threads which would be about 1/8" diameter or 5/16" diameter hooks which would be as thick as a pencil. Or is the outer dimension of the nut 5/16"?

The nut requires a 5/16 key to adjust the tension. Gibson uses 1/4 inch, which is probably the size used on a majority of resonator banjos...
So I am not talking about threads, but rather hook and nut sizing. I gether the most common (nut) sizes are 1/4, 9/32 and 5/16...
