they used to sell --selling it as --but then they put forth that it needs fret leveling ==which is not a big deal--I don't stand to gain from posting this--I was over there buying strings and saw it --thought I'd pass it on here--500 bucks--
full blown solid body -2 pick ups --would be right down my alley

Yeah, I got it. I was planning to build a solid-body electric banjo but this will give me a project and a good idea of what it's like.

Thanks for posting.

Elderly should give Tom a commission, that electric has been up awhile. Id try it first. I did. Didnt sound like a banjo. My sG run though my banjo fx on a fender Mustang amp sounds more like a banjo.

Personally I'd wouldn't waste my time trying to get a banjo sound with it-way too much sustain--for me--more a toy for effects--tube amp tones ==or a clean country electric guitar tone

Yup - I have no delusions that this is going to have a "banjo" sound. I'm a much better banjo player (not that good) than I am a guitar player though - this might be a fun/interesting toy. I do look at Elderly occasionally but this wouldn't have come up in my normal search parameters.

Can do some chicken pickin'.  Or bring out the old Buck Trent steel guitar type licks.  smiley

I always wanted a banjocaster, not because I want it to sound like a banjo but because I figure it's the easiest way to get telecaster tone without needing to learn how to play guitar. This is basically the equivalent of a guitar player buying a 6-string banjo.

I would like to build one of these some day, so I can use back up banjo licks on slow songs. I don't want it to sound like a banjo, I want it to sound like an electric guitar, but have the ease of playing the banjo. When I get some of my current builds finished I will try it.

From the builder's point of view, I'm thinking about a headless electric banjo. It solves the issue of finding a 5 string bridge/tailpiece also since I can use the single-string bridge tuners (see photo). For pickups, I was thinking to use the hot rail style pickups (see photo) since many others need to have the strings over the pole pieces to be "balanced." Also, since I've gone totally off-the-rails vs traditional banjos, I might as well try out a zero fret too.

That one, used, was $500.

Why not just shop around the neighborhood, CraigsList, whatever, and get a used telecopy?
Pop off the 6th string, , 5th string.

Put a small screw or tack behind the 5th fret, stick a light guitar  FIRST on there, tuck it under, and there ya GO!

You can even take a belch sander and re-profile the neck, if you want.

When i first started learning banjo, I did close to what Mike Gregory said. I unstrng the 5 and 6 and restrung 5. Done! Got me out the gate running.

I've seen that done.  There is even someone making these for sale on Reverb.

It's more about the process and doing the building that it is about having another, different banjo. My banjo playing ability is progressing slowly but it's not because of a lack of banjos :)

The Shapeoko 5 Pro CNC and Omtech Polar CO2 laser have been a game-changer in my projects.

I'm an amateur (not selling anything) but I've been trying to document my projects here:

I have a 335 copy( haven't played in years) with real nice lace pick-ups coil tapped --and my mesa boogie 22cal needs woke up---I was kinda liking that old vega's round body== that with an outer ring ---that would be-- like looking at ==the profile---of a resonator banjo from the front-- but it would be solid--then maybe get some shiny things --like a bixby -
