I've been using the metal mount that allows the Snark tuner head to be mounted on the resonator. My tuner has gotten old, and the little tabs on the mounting hole have broken. So I bought a new Snark, and it looks like the head cannot be removed from the clip-on device. Hence I cannot mount it on the resonator mount.
Has anyone come up with a solution? Is there a Snark model that still allows removal of the head from the clip on mount? I like the convenience of the tuner on the resonator and don't want to go back to clipping the tuner on the banjo head.

Just a wild guess, but MAYBE.....
A rare earth magnet glued inside the resonator, and another glued to the back of the Snark.
Maybe a Forstner bit to thin the resonator wall from the inside, so there's less distance between the two.
But FIRST: Before drilling the wall, make sure that the powerful magnets do NOT upfucculate the ability of the Snark to be as snarky and as accurate as you need it to be.
Check out the D'addario Micro banjo tuner. It fits seamlessly and elegantly on the tension hooks, is easily removable, and is a very accurate and stable tuner with remarkably long battery life. It's also very unobtrusive, almost invisible to an audience. I've been using it for several years now, and it has proven to very reliable. daddario.com/products/accessor...jo-tuner/

No, that will take some time, but eventually these clamps will give and break off.
I took a tiny tie wrap to keep the clamps from breaking all the way.
So far, all is still working, but meanwhile the surface of the tuner is turning gooey.
So while being a reliable and accurate tuner, I'm somewhat dissapointed about it's mechanical properties.
Yup - that's what happened to mine. Got gooey, and the nubs broke so it wouldn't stay on the mount.
I have the mount that lets you attach the tuner right onto the resonator - without the clipon that comes with it. It's a great idea and keeps the tuner right where you want it.
So I pulled real hard on the new tuner (ST-8 I think) and it finally popped off of the clip-on gadget. So it is happily attached to the banjo where I want it.
I know the snark is not the best, accuracy wise. Most of these tuners get you close - and the final tune is by ear, especially with banjos.
Thanks for all the comments guys. Hope this thread is helpful to at least one other out there.
Banjo Ben Clark, StewMac, Elderly, etc sell a device that allows you to mount the Snark to the tensions hooks. I've used one of these, and it works reasonably well. Below is a link to Ben Clark's web page for the device.
Snark Tuning Mount For 5 String Banjo
I do however, agree with Jacob Stone about the D'addario banjo tuner. It's a much better solution than the Snark with the retrofitted device.

Do you (or anyone reading this) know if this tuner you link to will work with a Nechville pot?

I have the D'Addario tuner because of its better form factor and because I was tired of the Snarks breaking off the tuner hook clamp I have. I find that, as a tuner, the D'Addario is clearly inferior to the Snark, especially in noisy environments such as jam sessions. I'd love to have the form factor/usability of the D'Addario combined with the precision of the Snark.
The post (?) on the Snark resonator mount is too short to allow for any adjustment [to reduce glare]. So I cobbled up one [a post from a headstock mount + HDPE poly + JBWeld] that allows for a bit of adjustment [but any longer and it wouldn't fit into the case. ]. But, I found the Snark to take an inordinate amount of time to sense/settle on the note, so it sits unused.
Similarly I made HDPE poly brackets (?) to fit behind the J-hooks for my two other tuners. So long as a guy likes to putter [as I do] then making/adapting stuff is just part of the process, but I can see it's not for everybody. [Otoh, I gotta admit the D'Addario looks mucho more elegant/sleek/?? than mine.]
Frank, tongue-in-cheek, of course the D'Addario mount will fit onto Nechville pots .... just as ketchup makes any food edible, same with duct tape and tuners/banjo pots.
My experience with the D'Addario is the same as Phillip's. I like the looks and the intelligent attachment. But its performance is lacking. It is slow to catch a note. Sometimes it doesn't catch it at all.
Also the end of the mount scraped some finish off the side of the neck at the heel. It was finish with color in it, so now I have a visible light spot on the heel I need to touch up som day.
I'm on my second Snark resonator mount. Broke my first one.
I believe Gill (maker of resonators) used to sell a Snark resonator mount made of metal. But by the time I wanted one, he was no longer making them. Wish someone would pick up that idea.
I find my Snark ST8 to be sufficiently fast and close. And it did take some effort to get the head off the neck the first time. But for me it performs better on the headstock, so mostly I use it as intended, not on the resonator mount.

Neither the Snark adaptor or the D'Adario adaptor will work on Nechvilles. At least not on the Vintage Models, black or silver.

Hi Wayne
Is this the kind of Snark Tuner Mount for 5-String Banjo your looking for?

FenderFred : I think the question was about the availability of Snark tuners where you can take off the clip portion to attach the tuner portion to the banjo bracket clamp. Snark recently changed their design to make the connection more robust but for this reason it has become harder to remove the tuner from the clamp.

Thank's Philipp I did wonder.
