I was flipping rocks in a small cave in Alberta in Dinosaur Provincial Park & was surprised to see small scorpians there!
The northern scorpion, Paruroctonusboreus (Girard), is the only species of scorpion found in Canada, as reported by Dondale (1979). The species is found in the southern Prairies ecozone in Alberta and Saskatchewan and in the Western Interior Basin ecozone, specifically in the southern Okanagan Valley of British Colombia (Johnson 2004). No other species of scorpion is thought to live in Canada. Canadian specimens of this species have not yet been DNA barcoded.
In southern Alberta, the northern scorpion inhabits dry, eroded riverbed slopes and lives in rock fissures or narrow cavities and emerges at night to hunt (Johnson 2004). The species is not efficiently caught using pitfall traps and is best observed by flipping over stones or dried cattle dung (C Sheffield pers. comm.) in the daytime or with the use of ultraviolet lights at night (Johnson 2004).
Scorpion “stings” are painful for sure. My Gdaughter was stung by a brown bark scorpion last summer. We call poison control and they said to use topical Benadryl and ice pack to control the swelling. If she were to develop an allergic reaction to call 911. They also called back about thirty minutes latter to check on her.

Owen as tempting as it is to pack in 5 more stings before the days end to beat the malaysian wth 7 stings, Im going to let her record stand.
The striped tail scorpion got me once and is still at large. The bark scorpion got me twice and in a gentlemans agreement, I was the victor of that duel. After about 5 hours, Im back to pickin.

Well, there’s the 5 future stings, right there
I have felt your pain. At an E. Kansas wildlife camp. Known for its scorpions, giant centipedes, and copperhead snakes. (Our scorpions are only about 2-3" long or so), but they loves to get into tents. As a young teen that scorpion sting was really really painful. But, those 6" long centipedes were worse. I never got it from one of those, but had to take a few campers to the infirmary for treatment and deal with a very painful night-usually followed by the parents coming to get there kid. Brad
Getting stung 3 times those is a frightening thought!
