I need a case for a beautiful Prucha Legend Standard banjo. Jarda Prucha recommended I look at Crossrock or Saga cases but did not recommend a certain model. WHAT CROSSROCK or SAGA case (model number) is the best quality for a normal "Mastertone style"  5 string? or is there a better built case out there??

The Superior CD-1530 by Saga is a good case, used by many banjo makers. They were in short supply a while back. I haven’t looked lately.

Personally I don’t like the Crossrock cases. I handled one and it seemed too flexible to me. But others may think differently.

Personally I'm not impressed with CrossRock, they look great but that's about it.

This new case has been getting some attention lately and I'm considering buying one for myself

Superior Cases are well made and seem to be a good value.

My opinions for what they're worth,

Every quality banjo should have a hard shell case to be in when not being played but I believe how the case will be used should be a consideration. A traveling professional in a band and on the road with his banjo would probably need something that someone who basically is going to go to jams and play at home wouldn’t. Just a price consideration I will throw out as well.

The Goldtone case looks like a twin of the Crossrock case that I have with exception to the locking latch.I use it mostly for car travel and not for flying. As for the cost, the Goldtone is less than the Crossrock on Amazon.
Personally I’m pleased with the case however I wouldn’t feel comfortable with airline baggage handlers testing its durability.

I agree, if I had $500 to spend, I'd look hard at that goldtone case. Ned speaks highly of them, and he is definitely on the road.

$500 is the limit mentioned in the thread title. But this case sells for $300, not a bad value at all.

Check Ameritage. I have a Silver level case that has stood up just fine for a fair number of airlines as checked luggage. However since I bought it for about $300 as I recall (not more, maybe a bit less) they have gone to built-to-order, call for price. I suspect now it might come in at $500, I hope not more.
