I seek advice from any owner of a similar 13" scale banjo, concerning proper strings. I have been using mandolin strings (GHS LSB250) and would like suggestions for banjo strings used by other players.
A wood-topped mandolin is a very different sound-making machine from a banjo. A stretched hide works best at MUCH lower string tension. The GHS A240 "ultra-light" is about the only commonly available mandolin set I know of that isn't WAY too heavy for a mandolin-banjo. Elderly sells a custom set for the MB that is a good bit lighter than those.
How are you tuning it?
