I just wonder what stuff he has in it? "American" material can be anything from straw to French fries or chicken feathers? Or old banjo strings?

Hello Janolov,

This is Ric Hollander, co-inventor of the Banjo Bolster. To answer your question, the cotton poplin fabric we use is custom made for us by a small company here in the US, using the pattern design I created. The polyester fibers we place inside the Banjo Bolster are also made in the US. We were unable to source the type of thread (quality, color, etc.) we require from US companies and instead use the finest, highly durable European thread available.

I can assure you that no food products or animal parts are ever used in the creation of the Banjo Bolsterwink

Hi Ric,
So I guess this is meant for open back banjos? It would be difficult to keep taking off your resonator for times when you need quiet quickly...Jack

Hi Jack,

The Banjo Bolster has nothing to do with quieting the banjo.  It is not a mute.

Rather, it is a patent pending device that enhances the banjos tone by transparently removing undesirable overtones, while preserving the full power and frequency response of the instrument. It allows the player to easily adjust the amount of overtone removal by how the Banjo Bolster is positioned inside the banjo pot, thus providing a wide range of control and customization over the desired tone. Once the player dials in their sound, the Banjo Bolster can be left in place for as long as desired.

With regard to resonator banjos - we are in the process of testing a new Bluegrass Banjo Bolster, specifically designed for bluegrass banjos. I was just talking with one of our testers earlier today and the results thus far are very positive.  Unlike the "Classic" Banjo Bolster, which sits along the rim, contacting the dowel stick/coordinator rod(s) on either side, the Bluegrass Banjo Bolster is smaller and is placed between the coordinator rods. It acts as a "sweetener", adding light overtone attenuation, while maintaining the full power, growl, edge and bite of a bluegrass banjo. It too will offer configuration options to the player to vary the tone.  Stay tuned...

If you have a moment, please visit BanjoBolster.com where you can hear before/after sound comparisons and see videos demonstrating how to install and configure the Banjo Bolster. Check out the wonderful Customer Testimonials we've received since our launch 3 months ago! This device is the real deal!

Hi Ric,
I don't know how I completely missed that. I guess it's because so many of the reviews were from open back players. I've been to your site and yes, the tone is great. You are getting some great reviews, lots of them....Thanks for posting Ric...Jack

Ric's having way too much fun creating these images. I particularly love this one. It really conveys a mood.
