Any advice on forming a group of bluegrass musicians (not just banjoists) to jam? I live in Tulsa, OK but haven't made many connections in the local bluegrass scene. Unfortunately, my ability to travel/jam indoors, is rather limited as my girlfriend has a chronic health condition. But I'd be happy to host a group of bluegrass musicians in the backyard if anyone's up for it!
Maybe start here:
gobms.org/
Greater Oklahoma Bluegrass Association.
I didn’t see anything for Tulsa. I don’t know what’s close. Actually, I’ve never even been to Oklahoma.
Maybe also look into fiddling associations. There’s something there just need to find it.
First you have to find some bluegrass fans....
I'd post on craigslist, nextdoor, Facebook, (lots of other places too),flyers at bluegrass friendly music stores, go to shows or festivals nearby and find pickers.
Gather emails.
Find a spot....
Build it and they will come.
My town had a kind of fractured scene with a few jams but they were not easy to find even though they were open jams.
I started gathering emails and weekly mailing out jam info. This was about 8 years ago.
I have 314 people on the list and some weeks we have jams every single night of the week...and some nights two.
Have fun!!
