Impressave ..huh..?! :0)
I was watching an educational program talking about the volcanoes that formed the Hawaiian Islands. New Islands are forming as the plates drift over a hot spot, older islands are sinking back into the ocean. Erosion is the enemy of the islands, the porous, volcanic rock is soft and easy to erode. Not like that hard rock there.

Done right almost spectaculiar..
Sure would, but that kind of rock doesn't cleave well. Maybe if it cooked a few more thousand years.

No cleave ..saw cut..
Al, out here in the west all of our rock is either standing on edge and folded or just plain folded. We also have table mountains that are old lava flows that have a bottom to them and if your holes terminate too close to the bottom, all the energy goes straight down and the only thing you break is the boss' heart.
On the other hand, we do have diced and columnar basalt and blasting that is wonderfully easy. I always called it "hero rock" for what it did to my reputation.
All successful blasters are also amateur geologists, whether they know it or not.
