I don't think you can remove an ad. You can mark it sold or let it expire.
I could be mistaken, as I'm not as familiar with the classifieds as those who sell regularly and if I'm wrong, someone will correct me.

- Editing your classified ad is prohibited once it has been sold or traded. Ads need to be preserved in their original state to provide a record of your communication.
There is an option to "Hide" your ad, which makes the ad so only you can see it. That's what I use when I'm "finished" with one of my Classified ads.
There is also option to "Re-activate" hidden ads, if that is necessary.
Pretty sure the rule you mentioned, Sherry, means you're not supposed to actually edit your ad, after the item is sold, such as changing the description, condition, price, etc.... This is to protect the buyer

Thank you for the information. As I said, I'm not as familiar with the classifieds as someone who buys and sells frequently.
