There are other factors to consider. When the minimum retirement age was set, the average lifespan was 68 for men and 72 for women. People are living much longer now. If you were only going to collect your retirement pension for 3-8 years the system would be fine, but people are living healthy active lives well into their 90s and the system was not prepared for that. There's a whole lot of other crap going on with these Ponzi schemes, but raising the minimum age for retirement makes a lot of sense on many levels.

STUD figmo Al , 50 years ago I would have thought that to be a good plan, but now that I'm in that other group, not so much.

Socialism is an economic system where the government owns the means of production. France, like almost every modern country, has aspects of socialism, but the government does not own the means of production.
This is France we're talking about. So a completely normal situation, at least since 1789.
