I ve bought an old Ajax Banjo, it was pretty cheap but i dort find any Information to tell the age of it.

It has funny End of the neck..
Looks like a women Banjo.
Is there a page where i can find info s ore picks.

Is there a makers stamp ? I have a couple of Temlett "Ajax" banjos.  Can you post some photos ?

It is really easy to post the pictures on this forum page. Scroll down to the attachments box and you will see the pictures in your media file. Click on the ones you want to present in this forum then click "Post Reply". The pictures come out bigger and you will get more comments from the banjo brain trust.

Looks like one of Temletts Ajax`s from the stamp on the dowel, may be the peghead suffered major damage and some alternative pegs have been affixed on the remaining timber.

Thanks Derrick. I think your correct but I've no idea what could have happened to cause that sort of damage to the peghead.

It also looks as though the fingerboard may have been replaced. Should be Ebony with at least some minimal dot inlay.

Yes they are original. Mother of pearl or sometimes bone.

No would have originally been fitted with friction tuners/pegs. From the newest photo it certainly looks to me to have had a new fingerboard. It also may have been (smooth arm) fretless. I'd guess it's around 1890.

Ok.

I am thinking to take it apart and glean , repair it. Its not a lot to do..

New strings and a new head .. Sanding it here and there...

From the photos the head looks ok. Nylon strings would be best as steel will eventually break that nice old tailpiece.
