Kids these days don't know how to work old forums like BHO so we probably won't see a post about this here.
Thoughts?
I have an account on Reddit. Never post but use it to look at stuff. I asked the owner of the thread for more photos, particularly of the back of the neck and inside the rim. The FON, if it exists, will be on the back of the neck for a later 75. And hopefully it has a label...
Everything else "looks right" from a distance in terms of the hardware... but, limited photos. We shall see!
Someone who is on Reddit needs to pm this fellow, explain what this banjo appears to be, give him some idea of its potential value, and suggest that he go to the trouble and expense of taking this banjo to either Joe Spann at Gruhn Guitars or Steve Huber for an authentication and appraisal.
Since Curtis McPeake is no longer with us, they are the ones who I would trust for the job.

For those interested, Study the pictures very close. Every detail possible, The nut slope and spacing of strings got my attn. This is a (known) RB-75. There is no need for the author of The reddit post. to take this banjo to anyone for verification. Please do not PM me for any information. This banjo has been known to exist for 50 plus years,,
This early 1940s RB-75 is a known instrument that is owned by a person who knows exactly what it is and what it is worth. The banjo needs no validation nor appraisal. I have known about this banjo since the 1970s. This RB-75 has been in the same family for over 70 years. The grandfather of the Reddit OP is still alive and well. I spoke to the owner this morning to let him know about this online conversation. He is an active banjo player, who also owns and plays other banjos, as well. His banjos are well protected and not for sale at any price.

Then why is the owner of the banjo on Reddit, asking what year was it made, saying he knows nothing about banjos, etc.... ??

The Reddit OP is not the owner of the banjo. He does not have possession of the banjo, either.
