I drive a lot in the south and have seen the billboards for Buc-ee's (in 142 miles!) numerous times but never took the occasion to stop. Just assumed it was a truck stop brand I hadn't been to and I prefer a Love's when they are around. But we were in KY a few weeks ago on a college softball trip and games were cancelled on a particular Friday due to weather. One of the parents suggested we organize a trip to Buc-ee's for lunch?? Seemed weird to me but the couple we were camping with owns a mom and pop gas station here in Ohio and they got kind of excited. Turns out, not a truck stop, semi's aren't even allowed there.
So we went! And it was packed. Richmond KY is apparently the farthest north they go. 100 gas pumps but the best part was in the HUGE store. Home goods, cooking, hunting, fishing, camping etc but the FOOD. 30 different kinds of jerky (which you can sample), barbeque pit in the center and the chef's were having a blast. Amazing meat dept. We got two chickens, one stuffed with dirty rice the other a jambalaya, and a bacon wrapped porkloin. Just had the dirty rice tonight - amazing!
They have a kind of a Chic-Fil-A management approach - very professional staff basically treating every customer like a king - which I love. Our friends the gas station owners were saying they would have to pay somebody a full 8 hour day every day just to empty trash cans. Jason gigged them for not having windshield squeegees but being gas station connoisseurs they had to find at least one thing wrong.
Anyhow, it was a good bad weather adventure if you get chance check em out.
Buc-ees is supposed to build a new store near Louisiana Tech university on I-20 not that far from us but far enough to make plans going that direction. They are having some issues with zoning for the land. The best guess is later this year it should be in operation. Now the nearest one is the Dallas area or Fourney Tx I believe. I’ve never been but the wife has and she had nothing bad to say other than how busy I was.

Me too. I was just talking about a good experience at their establishment - period.
Anthony! They even have a Holy Wall of Jerky! The worlds longest carwash! Sounds like a good day out!
I'd gain a few pounds for sure. It sounds like a great tourist destination!
My idea would be to hang out in the outdoor & camping area & crawl into one of the tents that are set up for the night so I'm one of the first guys in line for breakfast!
