That's quite a specimen -- and quite a price tag! The wrist-action mute is a new one to me; I've never seen one of those before. I can't quite tell from the photos, but does it attach to the flange? And did they ever make such a contraption for an open-back? Not that I'd want one, but it's an interesting feature to ponder.

Or you could have the top tension and all the gold plating, engraving and originality of the TB-18. A 5 string neck could be made for another couple grand.

A bargain at $135K! Seriously, I remember that before the 2008 financial crisis some Loars were going for around $200K--and wome folks were asking a lot more than that (though I don't know they ever got the asking prices).

I always check Retrofret for new additions to their banjo page. They seem to consistently get some really nice vintage stuff.

If it doesnt say on hold, or if the price hasnt disappeared, it's still for sale.
That's what RetroFret told me months ago about another banjo they had.
