They are still out there to be found!

Beautiful instrument. Way out of my budget now, but still very nice to look at.

That's quite a specimen -- and quite a price tag! The wrist-action mute is a new one to me; I've never seen one of those before. I can't quite tell from the photos, but does it attach to the flange? And did they ever make such a contraption for an open-back? Not that I'd want one, but it's an interesting feature to ponder.

While we're looking at ways to dispose of a little pocket change, I saw this beauty on the Mandolin Cafe over the weekend: mandolincafe.com/ads/201507#201507

Really lovely instrument for sure!

Probably would require adding a '1' before the '8'

For sure! But either way it's all a dream for me. If im ever financially able to pay 80 grand for a banjo, it would be from winning the lottery or something so 180 or 80k wouldn't really matter!

Interesting that it has twenty frets. That is kind of like the PT models from a decade earlier. I have never seen that on tenor banjos that were made that late.

Well, for anyone who does have the money, that same 80k will also buy this TB-3 flathead with Frank Neat neck at Gruhn's.

Or you could have the top tension and all the gold plating, engraving and originality of the TB-18. A 5 string neck could be made for another couple grand.

A bargain at $135K! Seriously, I remember that before the 2008 financial crisis some Loars were going for around $200K--and wome folks were asking a lot more than that (though I don't know they ever got the asking prices).

Really neat 6 string... is that the original case, too? Very cool.

I always check Retrofret for new additions to their banjo page. They seem to consistently get some really nice vintage stuff.

There was a late 20s Gibson TB-4 raised head up recently I was looking at

Hi, I don't think the case is original, but I may have one!

Do you know if it's still available? Thought I'd ask you directly since the store is closed now and Retrofit hasn't answered my after hours message yet.

If it doesnt say on hold, or if the price hasnt disappeared, it's still for sale.

That's what RetroFret told me months ago about another banjo they had.
