I have been waiting quite a while for a new neck from what I thought is a reputable luthier for my 1926 TB3. I’m pretty patient. What has been your wait times for a new neck and from whom? What are your thoughts on a reasonable wait time? The original estimate was 5 months. I’m trying to decide if I just need to pick it up and start over and if so who to use.

A difficult situation. Personally, I find "neck only" to be an unprofitable challenge.

Inlays? Premium fiddle back Maple? Why does she need a new neck? Reproduction neck?

I think your impatience is inappropriate for a master craftsman. Are you receiving updates and photos without slowing the person down?

What's quite a while Mike?

7 to 12 months seems standard now

Larry how can you comment when you don't know how long it's been and from who? The actual top notch makers are very busy.

6 to 12 from a top builder is pretty standard.

If it’s a known builder , I would not worry.

Send an email and ask for an update. A good builder will most likely give you an update ETA and send a photo.

I too am a craftsman and understand quality takes time. I was originally told January(5 months from drop off in August). I called in early March to check on it and was told it’s in the working batch.

I didn’t want to give the builders name because I don’t want to hurt their reputation in any way. From what I see in the responses this timeframe is normal and I’ll be happy to wait for it. Had everyone said 3-6 months was normal I might have been a little worried. This is a first for me.

The new neck is an upgrade from the reproduction neck that was on it when I purchased it. The neck had some issues and I thought the 1926 pot deserved a quality neck. I would have had the old neck refurbished but I don’t think I would be happy with it.

If I happen upon another TB3 pot I may attempt refurbishing the old neck.

I have had necks built by Frank Neat and Clancy Mullins . I can’t say enough for their honesty and integrity. Both have always bent over backwards to assure I was happy with their neck or project. Both gave me updates and encouraged me to call whenever. I know they are both very busy and I wasn’t the only customer. Every one with a project is anticipating. I tried not to bother either, and they always finished in a timely matter . That’s my two cents . That’s about all I have since sleepy joe took over ! Good luck maybe they’ll get it done soon ?

I get the neck
I see the rim as the motor
The neck and the rest are like tires and brakes
I support the music in you
