Nice controlled blast...not too much but just enough. Must be some pretty shallow hard rock up there.
I worked on a job where our client needed to blast a pit for an underground storage tank system. Wow what a production...shut down the adjacent road, cordoned everyone far away, police and firemen everywhere, a loud horn sounded then BOOM. It was worth the wait.
Good job, Al. You trained 'em well. Sinking cut blasts are always the most worrisome. The rock has no place to go but up. Design for little or no flyrock and then clear the area as though there will be plenty. In an isolated area, the farthest I ever threw flyrock was 2000'. It was a sinking cut to open a new quarry (Ramelli Pit, near Doyle, CA) on USFS land. The size of a blast isn't what worries guys like Al. It's the type of blast and how close the nearest structure is. I don't know why, but contractors seem to always build the structures first and then decide that some difficult excavation needs to take place afterwards........
