I believe this may be a Musima banjo, made in E Germany.

@tdennis Thanks. I was thinking German but I'd not seen any with that pattern on the headstock before.

German, made either by former Nazi or more recent Commies. Probably the latter; Nazis are mostly in Argentina these days, and that country is more known for making vihuelas.

East German. It could be Musima or 'Perl Gold'. The vine inlay and zero fret is distinctive to them. Perl Gold usually has a name water slide decal.
