hello,
I've got a question: If a (maple) banjo neck neck has a somewhat thicker (ebony) fret board, is it ok if your 5th string peg hole crosses the border line between fret board and neck. ie...just a bit? tuning peg is tapered/press fit.
thanks

I don't think it would be an issue. Just make sure the hole is reamed and the press fit is not putting to much prying pressure. If your peg has the large fin I'd that that down to help with it fit. And a little wood or hide glue to help secure it.

I have seen factory made banjos that had the hole drift into the fingerboard. As Scott said, if it doesn't put pressure on the fingerboard in such a way that it would pry it away from the neck, it should be fine.

All my factory made banjos have a small intrusion of the fifth string peg into fingerboard
