My wife and I were fans of the TV series Bad Sisters on Apple, and what stood out to me immediately was the striking banjo soundtrack playing in the background throughout the series.
Now we have recently begun watching Poker Face on Peacock, and again the soundtrack is a five string banjo. The banjo stands out and is beautifully played. Yet, when I tried an internet search to find out who the banjo player and composer was for these shows, in both cases my internet search could find very little information.
Has anyone noticed this trend and found any info on the musicians? I come up empty.
Don't know yet about any original incidental music composed for the series -- which I thoroughly enjoyed -- but the recordings used for background included "Oh, Death" by Ralph Stanley and "Sinner Man, Where You Gonna Hide" by Stringbean.

There was definiitrly banjo picking and accents in the background apart from actual recordings of songs in Bad Sisters. I have notice similar background banjo in Poker Face. Rian Johnson wrote and directed most of season one episodes and Nathan Johnson was musical director. I read an article where they said that they did not tell the network they were planning to feature banjo as background soundtrack, they just did it.

I'm looking for the same thing, specifically the little melody at about the 9:00 min mark of episode 1. It's suck in my head. I can't play by ear. Might have my kid to to figure it out for me.

Originally posted by jan dupreeThey feature a lot of banjo and bottle neck guitar music on Hollywood movie sound tracks, but won't allow it on Commercial top 40 radio. It's even banned on country stations.

Hey Bill,
I played the banjo parts on Poker Face. Glad you dig them! Here's an article about the process and it includes the other musicians' involved - https://www.indiewire.com/2023/03/poker-face-music-nathan-johnson-1234810590/
"A guitarist, Johnson approached the score’s creation from a non-traditional perspective and brought in acclaimed banjo player Bennett Sullivan to play what he had written to see if it worked. He then put together a “dream house band,” handpicking members including drummer Jay Bellerose, David Pilcher on upright bass, Johnny Rogers on tuned wine glasses, and Judson Crane on guitar."
