thinking about a JDC Gibson, non-Blackjack.
Would the rim, need to be cut for a Huber flathead ring ?

Looking at options

Kinda defeats the purpose of the Crowe Gibson, doesn't it?  The ring is what makes the crowe model different from the style 3.

Yep, knew that, just looking at options. If I buy it I most likely wont mess with it.

I would hold off on it for a Crowe with the Crowe ring.

Steve Huber can provide a ring that will fit without cutting the rim.

The fit should be very close. I would think more in terms of sanding than cutting, if anything. I have had both but can't recall for sure. If guessing, I would think the Huber is a few thousandths larger. Eric Sullivan or Steve Huber could tell you exactly.

The RB75 "Crowe" has the Crowe/First Quality ring in it (which makes it unique).

Why would one hunt down a genuine RB75 (complete with J.D.'s signature), and then swap out the ring which makes it "what it is"?

Why not just buy an RB75 from Huber, with his rim and ring in it already?

We play what we like to look at and change things to make it sound like we want it to sound.
The aftermarket/replacement tone ring business is built on it.
