I bought a brand new car in December. Yesterday I received a "final notice" from one of those spam/scam car warranty types that said this was my last chance to purchase a warranty as the warranty on my car had expired.

Really? I've had the car a month and they start sending out letters? Dumb as a sack of rocks.

Some are easy to spot. I keep getting the same message " This is my last chance to purchase a warranty on my Ford Bronco. What I purchased was a Toyota Tundra.

I'm led to believe [some?] scammers make mucho doh-rey-me.   Maybe they're less dumb than we don't give them credit for.   My hope is that I retain [what's left of?] my faculties enough that I don't fall prey.  There but for fortune..????

My number one rule is never respond to anything that costs money. If you want it, seek it but dont let it seek you!

Imagine a world where there are no cells, computers or mass mailing. Ask yourself, if I lived in that world would I write this check?

Here in AZ, we get door 2 door solar salespeople. If you contact a solar company directly you dont pay the extra 30% these salespeople get. Scam, no...but close to it.

My fixed income neighbor fell for it. Now instead of paying a 125 dollar electric bill he pays a 108 dollar electric bill and a 152 dollar solar install bill. Those guys were really convincing that he would lower his electric bill.

I just got a mass-mailed offer for up to $400,000 in life insurance. That come-on was as far as I read. No company is going to offer no-strings life insurance to a creaky 78-year old.

Gee, I got 2 more in the mail today. Guess your information is sold to all these alleged warranty companies and then they all descend you with mail offerings.

Next thing, I'll be getting phone calls. Thanks heavens for robokiller and answering machines.

Neither are 100% effective, but they have cut down the flow considerably for us.

I wasn't aware of the How to Get Less Mail, but I've been on both State and Federal Do Not Call.  Doesn't seem to stop the scammers/spammers.

As I mentioned, neither are 100%.

Voice mail is a great tool.

If I don't recognize the number, it goes to voice mail.

If they don't leave a message...mission accomplished.

I do the same:  if it's an unknown number, it goes to voice mail.  Gets rid of a lot of calls, but they call back until  I block the call.
