Never heard of it so I googled. I found this in the well respected Lancet:

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(22)00222-5/fulltext

The interesting part is the conclusion: "The risk of stroke is reduced among people who have recently been vaccinated against influenza compared with those who have not. This association extended to the entire adult population and was not limited to individuals with a baseline high risk of stroke. Further studies in a variety of settings are needed to evaluate whether influenza vaccination could be used as a public health strategy to prevent stroke.."

And this, which has some useful fact checking links:

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2023/jan/24/instagram-posts/sudden-arrhythmic-death-syndrome-seasonal-stroke-r/

Reading other stuff out there it seems that getting flu increases your chance of a stroke and getting a flu jab has the double benefit of reducing flu and stroke.

Thought I'd get in before this becomes yet another anti-vax thread.

I always wonder when reading some of these studies about the other general health of the people. People who get regular flu shots also tend to take care of other aspects of their health. Regular doctor visits, exercise, healthier eating habits, etc. There are always many variables that would be very difficult to trace. But I do see how there can be a link between respiratory illness and heart attacks and strokes. Simply staying in bed for several days can lead to blood clotting. Interesting study.

I like the idea that getting a flu shot could reduce your chance of stroke far more than the new recommendations that children as young as 2 should get gastric bypass surgery.

It's always best to get all your shots and go from there.
I don't get my medical advice from anyone other than my doctors.

If you’ve ever had the flu—the real flu, diagnosed by an MD—you’ll not want a second run with it. I had it when in my late 20s. Still the most physically exhausting experience of my life. Now I get my flu shot every year.

There are ways to factor out such confounding factors.  This paper appears to do that, for example.

I get my flu, shingles and "C" boosters whenever my medical records say to.
I have my blood tested multiple times per year as necessary and I've had my hepatitus B shot.
Hep B shot helps you if you eat bad produce. They are giving that to young children as they enter the school system.

With all the nonsense about not getting your shots we are now experiencing a rise in polio cases.
That's not only irresponsible...it's nuts.
This is what we get when we mix politics with medicine.

I've had the flu a few times in my younger years, and once while teaching.  Very sick, and you are right, exhausting.  But when I was young and healthy I survived it.  In my 60's I started getting the shot because that's when the flu becomes much more deadly.  I also got my pneumonia vaccines.  If you ever had diagnosed pneumonia it makes the flu look like a walk in the park.  I had to plan well in advance to go to the bathroom because I would have to stop twice to rest on the way.  Felt like a horse was sitting on my chest.  Do not want to go through that again, especially at my age.

All these shots must be some kind of conspiracy.

We are likely to see smallpox revisit us if enough people refuse to get shots.

Likely a conspiracy by public health officials to prevent outbreaks of known diseases.

Who do they think they are? wink

Aspirin lowers risk of stroke as do other blood thinners. Strokes often occur when dehydrated or after injury to the body. Not sure how a shot could prevent a blood clot 6 months down the road...but pharmaceuticals do neat things.

I dont do flu shots. I got sick for 2 weeks after getting my first, so i opted for no second. The military gave me soo many shots I think one day Ill turn into a werewolf.

They only way that will happen is if someone in one of the Russian or U.S. labs releases smallpox into the wild, or if some dingbat genetically engineer's it back into existence.  They haven't vaccinated for small pox since it was eradicated from the planet in the late 1970's.  Fortunately there is a stockpile of vaccine incase some whack job losing a foolish war decides to release it back into the wild.  Not mentioning Putin's name here.

This is true, I failed to learn history and had to repeat it twice.
