Hi, Banjo Players,
Is anyone interested in Tenor Banjo for Beginning and Intermediate Players? I'm considering adding TB in CGDA tuning to my TrueFire Channel, Marcy Marxer's Acoustic Planet. There are a few things there now but I have the option to make specific courses in anyone is interested. the course would include Intro to TB Chords, Building a Chord Vocabulary, Common Jazz Chord Phrases, Single Note Playing, Traditional Singable Songs and Fiddle Tunes.
There are some amazing resources on BJHO. Is there a need for this idea? Thanks, Marcy Marxer
Hi Marcy,
How about melding the Tenor Banjo with the Baritone Uke. I've just strung a 1924 Weymann Tenor in Chicago Tuning (D3-G3-B3-E4).
@GeneAugust
Hi Marcy - yes, definitely - I would be interested in signing up to your channel if there were more content for CGDA tenor banjo/guitar. I'm not a beginner anymore but always interested in learning new stuff. There is lots of material for GDAE out there but not very much for CGDA and I like the idea of having a broader content including folk and fiddle tunes - maybe some stringband rags and blues?? Thanks Carrie

Hi Jes,
I play GDAE on a 100 year old Puntolillo tenor. It was built around 1923. Gaetano Francisco Puntolillo made banjos for retail and wholesale. Many S.S. Stewarts are actually Puntolillos. It's the banjo's centennial birthday.
I used to play a 5 string, 3 finger. I was getting pretty good when I had a stroke and can no longer play rolls or strum. I pick tab slowly. I haven't played with another picker in over 2 years.
So, I'd expect there are a lot of tenor players on the hangout who would love to join you. It'll be quite a while before I can again. Good luck.

WOW! That's a beauty! I never heard of Puntolillos. Sweet!
Hi, TBers,
There does seem to be interest here. That's great! There is the TrueFire option BUT I also have my own app for teaching where I can set the format to the interests of the class. At this point it would be very difficult to put every lesson up in all tunings. If we start with chords and songs I can put charts up for CGDA, GDAE and DGBE. No problem. That could be a good way to get started.
Truefire and my app are related but different. Here's the difference.
Option A-TrueFire offers Video lessons, pdfs, practice audio tracks and you can send me a video of yourself playing or asking a question. There are several pricing options to check out. The name of the channel is Marcy Marxer's acoustic planet. There are about 10 lessons there for TB/TG that nobody has viewed. Ha!
Option B - My app-(UpPower.passion.io) offers video lessons, pdfs, practice audio tracks, a Typeform survey where you can email me directly, once a week Live Sessions on ZOOM, Once a month ZOOM open mics or banjo show and tell or what ever we want. The price is 49.00 per month.
The official name of my app is Ukulele Practice Power. I started it with just ukulele and baritone uke. I have since added Swing Guitar, Guitar for Women and can easily add Tenor Banjo/Guitar.
If you're interested, please let me know if Option A or B sound like a good idea and we can go from there.
Best, Marcy
PS-I play an OME Eddy Davis model TB, Vega Style X#9, a National Triolian TG and a Martin 5-17 TG.
Also Uke. Baritone Uke, Guitar and Tele. Oh, and Mandolin.

It is a beauty. And it sounds sweet. I'd never heard of Puntolillo either. There is very little information on line. A local luthier confirmed the make so I am sure it is G. F. Puntolillo.

OK, I just added a PDF with a guide to finding the TrueFire lessons on TB/TG and set some of the sessions to free. If you see a little gray world icon that lesson is free. You'll see how I tend to teach Jazz Chords and Melodies as well as fiddle tunes. Chord Melody will come later. Let me know what you think.
Best, Marcy
You're not the only one. I just posted a PDF below showing how to get into TrueFire.
Best,
Marcy
