Notice that Jim didn't say "factory original five-string prewar flathead." He just said "prewar flathead."
There's a world of difference between the two categories.
Jim is very conscientious. I know he is as honest as they come. I have never once read of anyone getting burned by him.
He would never have anyone think they were getting an original five string Mastertone for the price of a really good TB conversion.
Hey Brian, These are called "prewar" just like the old Martin guitars. I agree, it seems it should be different terminology like "wartime" seeing how we (USA) got involved in 1941... of course the war was going on quite a while before that. Anyway… It will be on display at Banjothon.

I have no doubt it is as claimed but being a carpenter I wonder about the use of phillip's head screws--seems like the converter would have went slotted on the tuners and reso brackets-this is not an accusation just nitpikin the converter--unless they were factory issue --then it is my bad
but then a again on my old pot (what'left of it} I got tired of the brackets coming loose and thru bolted them
