These type of banjos are popular with the aristocracy collectors. The price is no surprise to me.

I can think of a few people who would be motivated to have it, and it only takes two to run the price up.

Outside of that circle of a few people, I doubt there would be much of a market at this price point.

Probably just belongs in a museum. If you try to make it playable the value will decrease significantly.

Occasionally sales like this are also driven by some spill-over from early American folk art/craft collector circles... folks who are interested more in it's construction and decoration, and may not actually care that it's a banjo.

I know who purchased this banjo. Won't reveal who of course, but rest assured that it's in good hands, and someone who will treat it properly.
