I've loved John Prine all my life & whenever I can't think of what to listen to it's him. I just found out Clay Pigeons was by Blaze Foley! Went down that rabbit hole & found out he was good buddies with Townes Van Zandt! I could imagine them all in happier times.

I just watched the Duct tape Messiah Documentary about Blaze Foley. Found it free here on the net. Another troubled troubadour.

Watch the slide show!

Good stuff.

The first time I played "Tecumseh Valley" to an audience, I had to explain that the Caroline in the song wasn't the Caroline in the audience - the lead guitarist's wife. surprise

I started out listening to Willie P, Bennett. That led to David Essig. Valdy & Dan Hill played in town too.

I've seen Fred Eaglesmith a few times & McClain & McClain got mad at me for stealing a laugh wearing their giant I'm on Drugs sunglasses!

A good performance of that song will bring a tear to my eye for Caroline, a sad end for one who "the sunshine walked beside her." Townes was a master storyteller.

That gets me too Bill. Fred has played at our high school stage venue & Valdy at a local church I built some doors for after it burned down. (Is that a run on sentence for all you English professors ?) Barney Bentall plays here quite a bit too.

I saw Ronnie Hawkins a few times when I was too young to be in the bars. I didn't know who Robbie Robertson was so I'm not sure if he was even in the band then. David Wilcox was/is Amazing if he wasn't too wrecked!

I used to see Amos Garret at the King Eddy Blues Bar in Calgary. I see he's still touring! He must be a hundred!

I got Pinetop Perkins autograph there!
