Yes... generally not a problem with those tunings with typical classical strings, lot's of folks do that.
The only issues might have with alternative tunings might come with range bounds of string tension; that is lowering a pitch too much makes too floppy; raising makes too tight (maybe break)... dependent on what gauge start with; so might have to find another gauge string (heavier or lighter). The other factor is overall tension will affect the neck relief and action... so might have to adjust for that. Again, generally not issues with open G or D tuning.
