Not just music. Attractive people will have higher success when all else is equal. The music industry switched from recorded/unseen artistry to visual after the advent of television. When it was just radio and recordings the voice mattered most. It all changed with television. Even in politics. The first televised debate was between Nixon and Kennedy. People who listened on the radio thought Nixon won the debate. Those who watched on television thought Kennedy won. Look at the first season of Survivor, and the the most recent season. The attractiveness scale went up exponentially. Just another annoying fact of life. My last dentist had nothing but beautiful, young hygienists and assistants. Am I really supposed to believe there were no plain hygienists who applied?
As Charlie Harper said on an episode of "Two and a Half Men" "She's the pretty girl you put on the cover of the album of an ugly girl who can sing."
None of this means talent alone cannot succeed, it can, but it has to work harder.
The same argument women have been making for years about succeeding in a man's world.
