i have been looking at some Bacon &Day banjos some of them have metal on the wood inside does anyone know why they did that? and how it affects the sound?

It is not metal. It is silver paint. I first noticed the silver paint on Silver Bell models, but have seen the silver paint on lesser grade Bacon banjos.

I have both a 5 string and 4 string B&D Special #1. Both have silver paint on the inside.

Not metal. Silver paint. This also to be one of the Bacon banjos made by Gretsch.

Because it isn't metal, I doubt it has any more effect on sound than a typical finish.
