Can anyone help me confirm the originality / value of this Bacon & Day Silver Bay banjo.
It was sold as a model 4 silver bell but have been told that it may have been "upgraded " to a model 4.
I have tried to check it against other model 4s but they all seem different , this one came from a private collection ( the owner did the painting to the skin) and been the owner for the last few decades.
The serial 27xxx number is stamped on both the rod and the body which I think dates it to 1929.
Any help would be appreciated , I am looking to sell but do not want to mislead anyone.
as mentioned on Facebook - where the topic has since been deleted. this is a parts banjo no.4.
- the tonering predates the SN
- missing fleur de lis and first fret marker
- has what appears to be an overstamped No.4 on dowel
- incorrect nuts
- low flamed maple rim outer shell
- arm rest appears to be similar to those made by CC Richelieu on his upgrades
