Here are a couple of basic backup tabs. I think that to be a solid player you should learn some basic banjo backup; it develops your left hand. There are a few players on BHO who are fantastic with videos about backup and solos...Jack p.s. you may have to check in module for some teardrop backup...

Jack, you make a good point about the importance of playing solid backup. I have had to shift to a more rhythmic clawhammer backup at recent contra dances when no guitar has been in the group. I felt it was what the music and dancers needed.
