I look forward to hearing it. I am by no means in the market, but if I were, you hit one of my favorite builders, wood choice, inlay pattern, and headstock, along with a 14 ounce rim for what should be an outstanding instrument. I try to listen to all of your demo videos and of the ones I have caught, a Sullivan V35 with a torrified rim is the one that stuck in my memory as the most impressive. Hopefully this will replace it as my favorite.
Hey Al, thanks for the kind words! Yes sir this ring is available indvidually in nickel, gold, and unplated.
Thanks, Jim

Gorgeous instrument, btw!
Hey Tim, I went with nickel silver frets. I'm just "old school" in the parts of these banjos. I can do stainless steel as well with a special order.
Thanks, Jim

Did you go with nickel frets?
I think it sounds great.
Not to sound like a broken record, but your videos are a great resource in terms of comparing the overall listening experience of one banjo to the next. Great consistently played passages recorded in a consistent manner. Of course unpacking it all as a listener without the firsthand playing experience will always be an exercise in subtlety with some uncertainties - but for many of us in less banjo-steeped locales it’s as good as it’s gonna get…
So listening here (admittedly just on my phone for now!), I *think* I hear a “mature” (mellow/round?) warmth to the lower midrange that I like… maybe a slight hole in upper mids? I’d love to hear more about what specifically you were looking to achieve, what qualities ranked highest on your radar? Was the brushed nickel an aesthetic choice, or did you feel the lack of plating contributed towards the sound you wanted?
Here's a little picking in B...

Hey Tim, thanks for your kind words regarding the videos.
As far as the Ceres banjo is concerned, I just wanted to produce a good flat head to the market in the spirit of the old banjos but definitely with a few different appointments aesthetically. The brushed nickel is purely aesthetic and no tonal qualities that I know of. I just really like the look. What you are describing with the mellow mid range etc. is what I like about this banjo. It sounded great immediately and is only getting better. I have been playing 001 a lot.
Thanks!
