Hi yall. I just purchased a gretsch 5 string banjo. American made. Restoring it. Serial # 48444
I can't find any info on it. Best I can figure it's early to mid sixties
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I looked at your photos.
You purchased a Gretsch 5-string Folk Banjo model.
This line of "folk banjos" was introduced by Gretsch in the early 1960's.
A ca. 1963/'64 catalog is attached.
The early folk models had a horizontal "Gretsch" decal on the peghead.
In the later models, like yours, the "Gretsch" was presented vertically.
If the dowel stick is stamped "made in U.S.A." the serial number is date coded = Month -last digit for year - unit number.
so, 4 (April) - 8 (1968) - 444 (unit #).
If no "U.S.A." stamp let us know.
