A venerable standard in the bluegrass/Scruggs style, but anybody want to take this on for clawhammer? I was listening to David Johnson's version on his "Clawhammer Banjo" album (Smithsonian Folkways) at the gym this evening, and thought: "Hey, that works pretty well on claw!"

Let me know if you're up for it, and thanks in advance!

Randy, this old boomer is confused.  Are you looking for the tab, or offering to tab it yourself?

Sorry I wasn't clear: I'm looking for it!

Okay, I'm tied up the next few days, but I will try to get to it by the weekend.

Wow -- thank you, Don!  No rush at all; I'm just pleased you're willing to do it.

Okay, Randy, this is what I am hearing him do in the abbreviated sample that is provided on the Smithsonian Folkways site.  This represents his first two times through the song.  This isn't too hard, just basic clawhammer/frailing style, no drop thumb at all that I could hear, you should be able to figure it out.  There are only a few places where he departs from or breaks up the stroke.  He is in standard open G tuning (gDGBD).  Note that I only indicated brush strokes where they were not part of a standard bum-ditty pattern.  I have attached the PDF file below, and if you would like it in Tabledit format (TEF) with guitar and banjo tracks, you can find it here.

Don, this is fantastic! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I won't have a chance to take a crack at it until tomorrow or Saturday, but I just printed it out and it will be waiting for me on my music stand. I do so appreciate you tabbing this out; maybe one of these days I can learn how to do this myself and return the favor to the community.

Have a great weekend, and -- again -- thank you!! smiley

Kind regards,

Randy
