Howdy folks,

A little over a year ago, I signed up for and started Josh Turknett's Brainjo Course and was really enjoying my progress for the first two months. Then we moved into our new home way out in the country, and our only internet options were the extremely slow Hughes Satellite internet. The old AOL on dial up is faster. Trying to watch Josh's videos on line then became impossible. I can't even watch a 3 minute youtube video without several interruptions for buffering. Unfortunately, Josh's video lessons are not available to download so that I can watch them in their entirety without interruption.

So, can someone here at the Hangout recommend another good clawhammer/old time instructor who has videos that I can either download or buy outright on DVD? Thanks for the help, y'all.

I recognize Ken Perlman's name from the banjo books he authored years ago.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks y'all.

Chris Coole - chriscoole - DVD

Ken Perlman has a DVD to accompany his book, "Clawhammer Style Banjo." Dan Levenson has a DVD to accompany his "Clawhammer Banjo from Scratch," though it pairs up with only the early sections. Still, lots of audio files to download to support the three versions (basic, drop thumb, advanced) for each of the 12 tunes/

Also, with various free tools (ex. Realplayer), you can download YouTube videos. Josh Turknett's 8 beginner lessons are there. Tom Collins has many good videos, though there are several series and lots of topics rather than one clear series.

TrueFire has lessons from Cathy Fink (2xbeginner and 2xintermediate) and ‘Next-gen Clawhammer Banjo’ from Brad Kolodner. I recently started them so can’t attest to the quality but good so far. You can download them if you purchase them.
