Once I announced that I would be making a pair of solid gold fingerpicks for the Golden Anniversary of the National Bluegrass Banjo Competition at Walnut Valley Festival, there was no backing out. Landis Studios is also donating two sets of these special trophy picks in Sterling Silver for the 2nd and 3rd place winners. Yes, they're pretty. But the real beauty is the tone they produce. These 22k gold picks are yours as part of the prize package for the first place. Simply enter and win!

Before someone tells me how these will disintegrate after one round of Foggy Mt. Breakdown, please let me reassure you that they do hold up well. I thought the first pair I made last year were the first in the world, but a man told me that he had his jeweler make him a set from some gold coins (22K) and has been using them for over 20 years. The smooth strings have a burnishing action that keeps the blades bright. That said, I wouldn't recommend them for dobro or guitar.

Those picks are beautiful! Wonderful craftsmanship. Sadly, though, they will never grace my fingers.

Why do they have a guitar player on them?

They call him "Fiesty" he's the mascot or logo of the Walnut Valley Festival which is better known for their National Flaticking Championship.
