Got this at a flea market today in NJ USA. Scale is 21 inches. Would this be considered a zither banjo? Has a zero fret and skin head. No makers marks. Someone carved “Seaside Lounge” on the back. Seller thought it is English. What do you think?

This tenor is probably made in Germany, possibly East or West Ger. ( Perhaps a Musima brand instrument) It is not a Zither banjo, but shares some features of construction.

Here we go, the tour of Europe.

I have a similar instrument. Was told it was Italian in make. 1950’s, but I would not be surprised if the instrument shown was a German Musima.

lambertville flea market?  Seems as if banjos on rare occasion show up there. Bought a nice White Laydie mandolin banjo there a few years back. Also weird banjo parts.

I pondered whether this could originate from France or Italy but couldn't recall whether the makers in these countries tended to favor a zero fret like the German builders.

Looks like something they'd play down in South America. Lot's of old German instruments down there still.
