I write as a hobby and have a couple of songs I'd love to get listened to but I'm not sure how to move forward. I write more bluegrass/roots/Americana but do have one song that could be classified as country (but not modern sounding country).

Anyone else here enjoy writing? Do you know of a good way to get heard, especially by the bluegrass/Americana part of the business?

Thank you,

John

One caveat here: if you write a song, get it copyrighted so no one can copy it and publish it.

Other than that, go to festivals, play/sing in jams.

I don't know whether this is still done or not, but years ago, people would send songs to their favorite/famous singer and ask if they would consider singing it and give their opinion. If the singer liked the song, he/she might offer to either buy the rights to it or share in any financial gain by singing/publishing it, if any.
