We learned "Midnight Special" from a recording of Huddie William "Lead Belly" Ledbetter. Aaron Stevens of Monteagle, Tennessee, on the 1920s Cincinnatus guitar. My instrument is an 1888 Thompson & Odell "Luscomb" banjo tuned eBEG?B ~ gDGBD.

Yonder comes Miss RosieHow in the world did you know?
By the way she was walkingAnd the clothes she wore.

Umbrella on her shoulderPiece of paper in her hand,
She come to ask the governorTo turn loose her man.

If you're ever in AtlantaBoy you better do it right,
You better not squabbleAnd you better not fight.

Police will grab youAnd they'll bring you down,
Next thing you knowYou're prison-bound.

Wake up in the morningWhen the big bell ring,
March you to the tableYou see the same damn thing.

Knife and fork on the tableNo food in my pan,
If I make a complaintI'll get in trouble with the man.
