Trap-loads of 7.5 are good enough for all species of grouse. That or #6 steel.
You won't get much in a .410 load, I want at least 1 oz. 1 1/8 oz is regular.

#4 is OK for ducks when they are close in and you're a good wing shot.
I still have 2/3 of a box of #2 for turkeys with X-full after market turkey chokes.
BBB steel for geese but get 'em when they stall with their feet down.

I've never shot anything bigger so I guess for ball shot, I'm no help.

I've shot dozens of flats of #8 trap loads on the range but that's just too fine for any real birds.

7-8 for dove and quail. 7 for pheasant. 5 mag for turkey. Prairie chicken 7-ishes.
If at hand. I may put a lighter load of smaller shot in front , with a larger shot and heavier load behind. Rarely take a third blast unless another bird pops up. That was in the past because I have not hunted in years. For so many years I went bird hunting at least every other weekend from September to January, with a mid October turkey hunt and mid spring turkey. Those were many fine years, for sure. Brad

7 1/2 for Ptarmigan on the wing.  A .22 LR works well if they are sitting tight or running on the ground out ahead of you.

one die starts the crimp.. n the other finishes the crimp..

These dies will only work with pre crimped n fired shells...

Many years ago, I had the chance to buy a side-by-side .410. Sweetest shotgun you ever did see (Boito, maybe?). About $100 more than I could possibly afford. Still think about it.
.410 ammo or any size is really hard to find up here. 20 is good and 12 of course is most common.

I shot a couple of 12 ga x 3.5" goose loads with broken crimps. Puff!!!! The wads didn't even make it out of the barrel.

The gals on the USA Olympics team use a single 8.82 pound shot.

They seldom hit a bird, but if they DO, that sucker is going DOWN!

My favorite shot size is 2 1/8" acrylic balls sent around the table for 3 rail banks.

An interesting development....!

So.. decapping n recapping was todays mission....

It turns out...
That a mongrel 45-70 seating die..i have dose it all...n..more..!
Buy switching the parts around..it will decap n prime..
With the added use of a 4 1/2" .. 1/4-20 bolt....

Not only that but the old styal bullet seating plug..
Dose a super start crimp...
No fuss..no..muss..! :0)

Now onto a resizing die..
Gonna try workin with a .44 magnum resizing die...

Used one $10.00 on ebay... ;0)

My preference for reloading handgun cartridges, Alliant Bulseye for .380 ACP and 9mm and Alliant Red Dot for .38 special and 357 magnum. Not saying others would not work as well. Just haven't tried 'em. My relationship with the old Hercules Powder Co. tempers my thinking quite a bit. I've managed to keep my supplies up OK, but I've had to call in a couple of favors to do so when it got really tight.
