Remember the bar screen in Star Wars? Or maybe it was a different Scifi movie. There was part of the movie with a band playing in a club that was made up of various aliens. I remember it was a dark room and all their guitars had strips of bright lights on the edges of their instruments that looked like modern day led light strips. The instruments looked extremely cool. Has anyone here mounted led lights on a banjo?

Just a thought. I might have a new project soon. ;)

Here are a couple of videos that I did of my banjo lit up with LEDs.

The first one was done with a "Happy Birthday" flashing LED clear plastic thingy that I bought in the gift wrapping section of Walmart. It has 4 modes of flashing patterns, simply by pressing the switch. I opened it up, added two wires from the pushbutton switch to an external switch mounted to an aluminum plate accessible thru one of the flange plate holes.

The second one is made from flashing LEDs of different colors mounted on a piece of perf board, then mounted on one of the coordinator rods. The leads of LEDs, that are intentionally left long, are bent at different angles so that the pattern of the lights is dispersed.  A battery is Velcro mounted to the inside wall of the resonator and a mounted on/off toggle switch is accessible thru one of the flange holes.

This fellow has lights that are controlled by a microprocessor that can be programmed for different patterns. The control box is mounted outside the banjo and is placed in a pocket or on a belt.

I have used a long set of LED flashing lights that were a group sent with a battery pack in my pocket I used it during prison ministry it was a big hit. They were underneath a clear head so they really showed up nice. I’ll see use contact pick ups because they were so stuffed into the head that it killed the sound but then I was playing in the setting where I needed to plug it in anyway. I have also strong a little bit of Christmas lights around the edge of a resonator banjo just for fun. One of my banjo playing friend says do you have no shame.
