A 6 lb sledge works pretty good! How about two clothespins, one on each end of the bridge. That is cost effective and sound effective.

Go to Gold Tone website. They have two models; both slide on the bridge, below the strings. They are both good. The more expensive one
mutes the sound than the other, but both are good.

A pair of small alligator clips work pretty well, too. If you don't want to risk putting marks on the feet of the bridge put a little heat shrink tubing on the jaws.

As for the other, I prefer a 9 lb sledge hammer.

I truly enjoy my 'Mikes' mute. Mike is a member here.

Makes it a pleasure to play late at night...and sometimes just because the sounds is pleasing, and lets me here how clean I'm playing (or not).

Thanks guys! I tried the clothespin idea and it works for me. I used bag clips. Yes I'm cheap!

You can stuff a sweatshirt in the back of it and mute it very cheaply

I second the opinion about Mike’s mute. Great mute. Well worth the money. You won’t be disappointed

I use both Mike's Mute and the Gold Tone. I like the sound I get with Mike's Mute, and their service is great. One of my family members likes the Gold Tone, because of how it dampens the 5th string playing clawhammer. I am happy with both of them.

I use the 1930’s model airplane clamp
You reverse the side pieces to make blades
The key is getting the bridge to not vibrate
Stuffing ain’t the same
