I’ve been brought up to adhere closely to this maxim as a benchmark means of assessing where to place my trust.
Here in off-topic I daily read folks posts talking of their ‘superior’ enjoyment of freedom. And yet those same folks have just enabled the biggest infringement of personal freedom in recent history by massively extending the right to intrusion by state surveillance.
I’m curious what other staggering examples of ‘say one thing, do another’ BHO members have personally encountered?

Exactly. That's the corollary of the OP maxim; and precisely the nature of the examples I'm enquiring about.
What basis has anyone to demand others do what they won't or don't do?

BHO members had nothing to do with the PATRIOT Act and all other subsequent web-spying/mass data harvesting programs that followed. Those were all born of natsec organisms getting in bed with the telcos.
