Hey,
I was recently involved in a thread where I was, sorry, a jack-ass. Do you ever go in and delete comments that do not contribute to the thread as a whole?
Thanks.

My own “ jack-assery” …
pretty much sums-up the usual problem.

So after the 15 minutes it is stone?
Do mods ever clean up a thread?

I just feel bad that it totally derailed a good thread.
I would be nice to get rid of my "contributions". and let the thread live on.

If you send an email to the moderators they can remove your post.

As a rule, we won’t delete a post for being a jerk. If you have wandered wsy off topic, and ask, we might hide your post if it makes sense to do s.on

Jack-assery, trolling, personal attacks is why I got out of Facebook several years ago. Much as I enjoy the “banjo brotherhood” if this starts up here I’ll be gone. Something about the anonymity of the internet makes these people think it’s okay to forego decency and civility. Sad commentary on our society in general.

If we find people are flaming another member, they are usually asked to stop. If the flaming continues, the member may end up with a time out to see if that will change his/her attitude. If that doesn't work, there are times, very few and far between, when a member is banned.

As far as deleting posts, I agree with Bill: we seldom do that, but there are exceptions. Political, racial, sexual comments are often hidden/deleted. It is up to the mod's discretion whether a post is hidden/deleted at a poster's request.

I stand corrected.

My first post here was a relatively verbose assault on, what I saw, as "The intellectual cesspool" of television shows like Family Guy and South Park. Shortly after I posted it, I read it myself and thought no one should have to read my rather corpulent opinion on such topics on a website dedicated to playing the banjo.

I contacted a moderator and asked that it be removed, explaining that I might have, "forgotten where I was" when composing it. It was removed quite quickly.

Especially if it was a new-topic post, that makes sense. We’ll take out something that seems likely to lead to flaming and name-calling, particularly if we’re asked.

I think I know which thread you were talking about, and you are being too hard on yourself.  I think there were posts more vicious than yours.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I think I will just leave it alone.
Live and learn.
Take care.
