do the Kay K52 banjos have truss rods in them? i'm planning on buying one and i was wondering if they had truss rods so i would know if it would be safe to string it up with steel or if i would need to string it up with nylon to prevent neck warp

I don't believe they have truss rods, but they were made after steel was becoming pretty normal, so you should have no problems. I have played many a banjo (and a few guitars) that didn't have trusses and had been strung with steel and had no issues with them.

No truss rod. Yes to steel reinforcement — not the same thing but close enough for jazz.

I've never had neck issues with any of the Kays that I've owned. It helps that the neck angle is adjustable.
