It looks bad for the Carolina Hurricanes. They were crushed tonight by the New York Rangers 5 to 2. Now tied at 3 games each, I think the Rangers will win it in great fashion. I predict that the Tampa Bay Lightning will win their 3rd Cup in a row. That is just a prediction not really based on anything other than the Lightning is my hometown team; but, they have been playing extremely well and have probably the best goal tender in the NHL. We will see.

Good luck, Robert. Edmonton is now the lone Canadian team, so I’m rooting for them. The last Canuckian club to wing Lord Stanley’s mug was the 1993 Moan-Ray-all Canadiens.
btw, Phil Esposito, the founder of the Lightning, played Junior hockey for my home town St. Catharines TeePees. At the time I thought he was too slow to make it ,,, good thing I never became a soothe sayer….

The season's over when the Canadiens stop playing. So it's been over for a while.

But they did win the Shane Wright sweepstakes.

New York Rangers 6; Carolina Hurricanes 2. It's season over for the Hurricanes as they were destroyed by the Rangers in Game 7. The Rangers will now face The Tampa Bay Lightning Wednesday night.

GO LIGHTNING!!!!!!!!!!

I can see it all now..... two teams tied for first playing in the final game of the season trying to avoid the "kiss of death."

For some [or no] reason ^^ reminds me of a boxing match we took in during the '71 Canada Winter Games in Saskatoon. The MB dude looked a bit out of shape [i.e. a noticeable paunch hanging over the waistband] and spent the first round covering up, and the aggressor (?) seemed a bit reluctant.  At the start of round #2 somebody in the crowd hollered out: "Punch him  in the head."  From another area of the crowd came: "Punch him anywhere!"   And a side note... one of the guys with us decided to leave before the card was finished, and we'd meet up at a near-by bar.  When he got to the bar, the MB boxer was already there.

Rangers up 2 games to 0 ... I'm no expert, but sure never saw that coming.  Having said that, I ain't counting the Lightning out.   Methinks it best to keep one's head up when Trouba's around.... he appears to mean business.  Some site or other [2 days ago] said Point was "still not close to returning,"  although he did some skating drills.  IF it's a pulled (?) groin, it might be a while yet.  [That's retired farmer/teacher Owen talking, not  Doctor Owen.]

I have to admit, the Rangers did look pretty good tonight. The Lightning came alive at the end, but too little too late. Like Owen said, can't count the Lightning out. The city of New York is a thorn in Tampa fans sides with the Yankees and now with the Rangers. But, the Rays and the Lightning can still come around. Like Yogi said, "It ain't over 'til it's over."

Well, Chuck, you got 'em half right.

I was expecting an evening game, so for the most part was tuned in to the Boo Yays game ... and without Tabby on the crew, I had much less reason to flick channels so only stumbled onto le match du 'ockey for the last half of period #3.

1 game suspension for Kane... yea or nay?   I'm okay with it, but would like to see it applied consistently..... although I do give 'em a smallish yes for putting a bit more effort into it in recent years than in the past.

So much for a Canadian team winning the mug,, however, there are 13 Canadians on the Avalanche roster, and only 9 each on the Lightning and Rangers. Go Avs!

And meantime... Boston has fired head coach Bruce Cassidy.

I have very mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, Cassidy apparently rode younger players harder than they liked. His relationship with Jake DeBrusk was certainly nothing to write home about (and far as I'm concerned, DeBrusk is a crybaby who NEEDED a good kick in the pants).

And then I look at the other teams who outlasted the Bruins in the playoffs. The B's have some real talent, but just look at how Carolina outskated them - and how Carolina was subsequently outskated by the Rangers. Similar story on the other side of the bracket.

None of that is Cassidy's fault. A coach is only as good as the players the GM gives him - and while Cassidy was given some real talent, he was also given some real dogs and the team has precious little cap space to work with.

Nope. Far as I'm concerned, the wrong guy got fired. Sweeney should've been the one to go. And maybe Neely along with him.

Coaches seem to have shelf life, GM’s not so much,,, is Trotz a candidate for Bruins coach?

GMs should.

It's an interesting question RE: Trotz. The local buzz is that the Bs are too defensively focused, and that Trotz is even more so than Cassidy, so he's a bit of a non-starter. But we shall see. Certainly, offense was the big problem with this lineup - I think because the team wasn't built for the modern high-speed game, which doesn't favor the Bruins.

One of the most knowledgeable Bruins fans I know would love to see Tortorella, and I must admit that idea has some appeal to me: "I'm not here to babysit millionaries."

Ha,,,, Isn’t Torts from Worcester (Woostah) ?

When you have a slower team it's more effective to focus on defensive play, imo

Skip: "Far as I'm concerned, the wrong guy got fired. Sweeney should've been the one to go. And maybe Neely along with him."

Here's a take I hadn't heard before [I'm 100% ignorant re. Traikos' credentials]:   https://winnipegsun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/traikos-did-the-bruins-fire-cassidy-because-he-was-winning-too-much/wcm/ec4ef467-1c66-42cc-af77-519b90c6b8a3?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR1LTbsnJOgO6Ny65Yd14KmSFkCkGhS9PqvQFkSmwiZWy2fbeQmUj7g8yic#Echobox=1654821718

Hanlon's Razor reads as follows: "Never ascribe to malice what can better be explained by stupidity."

In other words, I'm largely not buying the above argument. After watching Sweeney's moves in the past few years, I'm left with the conclusion that he just ain't that bright. Yes, there have been a handful of good ones, but as the old saying goes, "even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while."

Meantime, I hope Cassidy lands a fat contract pronto and rubs the Bruins' nose in it. And the item in the story that Cassidy would love to take Bergeron with him? Bring it.

As good as Colorado played tonight, don't count the Lightning out just yet. Remember what happened in the series with the Rangers. The Bolts lost the first two games on the Rangers home ice and then came back to win the series. But whoever wins, this is going to be a great series.
