I'm making a new neck for my pyramid tb2, my previous neck had the Lucas inlay and correct 27/29 'blob' headstock which I'm not so keen on. So I'm doing a new neck with Lucas inlays but a large 75 style Gibson script on the headstock and I'm going for either a double cut or style7 headstock shape, maybe unbound? I know this is against the rules but I think the deco feel of the Lucas inlay could look cool with the style 7 headstock. Discuss ????
Many years ago, I was building a banjo to replace one that was stolen in a house robbery. I ordered precut inlays to make the neck. Once I got them, I decided that this was my banjo... why do I want it to make it look like everybody else's. I sent the inlay back and made my own inlay pattern. I shared this to say, it's your banjo, make it like YOU want it.
While not ready for inlay work, or even a fretboard at this point, this is my first neck attempt. Mahogany, to be paired with a Maple rim and rosewood fretboard. I have a couple acoustic guitars I've completed.. but my first banjo.!
Always helpful information on BHO to ponder as I learn a new skill. Thanks, kb
Thanks for your replies guys, Mark I have a '29 tb1 Coke Bottle, it was my first neck build and you were very helpful. I'm a little concerned that if I went for a style 7 without a binding it might not look right. I could get a luthier friend to bind the head as I don't feel confident but overall I'm thinking that unbound would suit a style 2 best
